Our Riordan Tasmania team recently had the opportunity to tour the new Spirit of Tasmania terminal in Devonport, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the infrastructure that will soon play an important role in freight movement across Bass Strait.
The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the new terminal and the arrival of Spirit of Tasmania IV and V, which are expected to significantly increase freight capacity and improve the efficiency of moving goods between Tasmania and the mainland.
With regular roll-on, roll-off services between Devonport and Geelong, the Spirit of Tasmania is an important link for moving bulk commodities and connecting Tasmanian producers with mainland markets.
The new vessels will offer around 40 per cent more freight capacity and accommodate larger truck combinations, while the new Devonport terminal features upgraded berthing, loading, and freight-handling facilities designed to support the expanded service.
Riordan Tasmania Operations Manager Trent Hardwicke said it was valuable for the team to see the project taking shape.
“It was a great opportunity to learn more about the new terminal and the capability of the new vessels. We’ve already established a steady movement of agricultural products across Bass Strait, so it’s exciting to see investment that will create greater capacity and efficiency as our business continues to grow.”
The new vessels will also provide a significantly enhanced travel experience, featuring modern passenger facilities, improved onboard amenities and greater comfort for the many people who travel between Tasmania and the mainland each year.
We’re looking forward to seeing the new terminal and Spirit of Tasmania IV and V enter service later this year and the benefits they’ll bring to businesses, regional communities and everyone who relies on this important Bass Strait connection.
